Gentlemen,
I'd like to thank everyone who responded either personally or through the
list to my request for suggestions on shipping boat anchors.
The final weigh in was 120 lbs. on the radio I shipped! Shipping something
that big, heavy and delicate was a first for me. I ended up using lots of
padding (2" green styrofoam) and making sure nothing could move around. I
also used 1/8" plywood sheets (not as heavy as you might think) to protect
it. I wrapped the outside of the speaker cones with foam rubber, made sure
the tunning condensors weren't open and filled the inside with the tubes
wrapped in bubble wrap so nothing could move. The pink styrofoam is way too
expensive if you have to buy it. It arrived with no damage.
Incidently, after phoning around, I ended up shipping it across Canada for
$71. with Dan Foss Couriers. I poked around in their warehouse when I
weighed it and they seemed to be pretty careful with the parcels. I was
also able to go on line and track it myself so I knew exactly the route it
was taking. It took 5 business days from B.C. to Quebec.
Thanks again for the help guys. Best regards,
Lorne Bohn,
