Sounds like you are making good progress, Ron.  The rectangular cap could be
a mica cap.  They usually live longer than the tubular paper caps.

If a 22K resistor in the subchassis is burnt, the likely culprit is C24, a
.02 mfd cap which goes from a transformer pin to ground.
