[Hallicrafters] Hallicrafters S-38

Hi,  I am in the process of restoring a Hallicrafters Model S-38 radio.  I 
have cleaned up all of the controls and re-soldered some of the connections. 
   When I turn the radio on,   there is a loud buzz/hum from the speaker.   
I had previously checked the speaker using a different source and it works 
fine.    The volume control does not have any effect on the buzz/hum,  the 
noise is the same loudness independent of the volume control setting.    Any 
suggestions as to where to start looking for the problem would be much 
appreciated.
