I spoke with Alan Waller, K3TKJ by phone Thursday evening after he received
notification that he had been selected as the Dayton Hamvention 2002 winner of
the Special Achievement award. This was a mission I embarked on in December 2000
and the goal has been achieved. My special thanks to all of YOU who submitted
nominations from the ARRL web site, or by any other means or medium. Although
the volume of nominations is 'not supposed to matter', I believe it did help tip
the balance in the direction of K3TKJ.

I authored an article on Alan Waller and the birth, growth and evolution of
qth.net/qsl.net that was delivered to the Awards Committee in Dayton in 2001
along with a letter of nomination. He lost to the ISS program that permits
schools to have live conversations with the ISS crew and selected school
children. A wonderful application of Amateur Radio, indeed. The article was
rejected by the ARRL for publication in QST, by the way. If you would like a
copy, with photos, send me a SASE that will hold unfolded 8X11.5 paper. Allow
for two ounces of weight.

I submitted another letter of nomination this year, along with the original
article and photos plus all of the nominations all of you submitted. This time,
victory!

Congratulations Alan Waller the founding father of qth.net/qsl.net!

Best wishes -
