Hi, 

Possibly I can shed some light on reinstalling the tulip effect meters.  
Measure the meter and go to your local auto parts supplier.  Purchase a 
piston ring compressor of the corrresponding size.  This will allow you to 
slip the repaired meter back into the hole.

To keep the split from increasing, pick up a stainless steel hose clamp while 
you are at the parts joint.  Not exactly Kosher, but will retard further 
splitting.  Painted semi flat black, it will not stand out like a sore thumb.
