Hi Mike,
Don't be put off by what Duane says, recapping and rebuilding a radio is
an excellent way to get your feet wet. All the parts and circuitry are
right there. It is easy to see what was there before so it is easy to
just remove one part at a time, replace and continue on. What's tough is
designing and building from scratch.
You go right ahead with your project, there are lots of people on here
who will be glad to help you along, rather than trying to discourage you
by saying you shouldn't do it.
I'll agree with Duane that if you have a local ham that would visit with
you, he could offer some hands on encouragement, but don't worry about
doing it on your own, just be safe.
