I would like to recite a parable, and to make sure it is relevant, with
all credit to Duane, I will name one of the subjects of this parable
Frogzilla since Duane can't possibly take offense to any subject, no
matter how off topic, that uses the term Frogzilla, as he has done so
often in the past himself.
Once there was a frog called Frogzilla sitting at the edge of the pond
on his own lilypad. On the North side of the pond were many other
lilypads, each one isolated all by itself. On the South side of the pond
was a whole group of lilypads, called Frogtown, all clustered into one
big lump.
One day, a frog named Frogzumma, sitting on one of the isolated lilypads
in the North, spotted a big group of flies heading toward the pond and
decided he should inform everyone of a potential meal, so he sent a
message South over to the Frogtown lilypad cluster and told them all
about the flies.
Now Frogzilla listened to everything that was said in Frogtown so of
course he also heard about the flies and wanted to send a personal note
to Frogzumma, reminding him about a time when Frogzumma ate so many
flies
he got sick. It was just a personal note, not meant for everyone in
Frogtown to hear. Meanwhile, Frogmilla on another lilypad in the North
also wanted to tell Frogzumma that she saw the flies too. Now you would
think that all Frogzilla and Frogmilla would have to do is send a
personal message to Frogzumma in the North, but no, it's not that easy
in Frogpond.
You see, the King Bullfrog of Frogpond decided that everybody should
hear
everything that was said in the pond, so he built a barrier to prevent
any frogs from easily jumping North to reach the individual lilypads.
The barrier was rigged such that no matter which way you wanted to jump,
North or South, you would always end up jumping South, right on into
frogtown.
Of course there were alternatives, but it involved pretending to jump to
Frogtown and then deciding how you wanted to get beyond the barrier,
you could dive down and swim under the barrier, gather strength and try
to jump over the barrier, or just plain swim miles out of your way
around the barrier. Either way, it entailed a bigger challenge than just
deciding whether you wanted to jump North or South to begin with and
then doing it.
As you can see, the ability to let the individual frogs jump in the
direction they wanted, easily, was taken away from them, so all Frogtown
heard the personal message from Frogzilla to Frogzumma and they were
also privy to all the "I see them too!" comments from all the other
frogs like Frogmilla.
The result was that Frogtown was inundated with meaningless drivel such
as this, because the frogs felt it was easier to just send all their
messages, no matter how irrelevant, on into Frogtown because that was
the only choice given them.
It would be nice for us frogs to have a choice:
jump North (Reply To: the sender)
or
jump South (Reply All: the list)
instead of:
jump North (Reply To: the list)
or
jump South (Reply All: the list)
Why does this seem so difficult to comprehend??????????????
