Others have provided interesting observations about the psychology and
probable side effects of accidentally rotating the function switch to the
"off" position, and then back to "standby".
To these, I'll add two more points:
1. Compared to power transmformers in some other SSB* rigs (such as, say, a
Heath Marauder), the transformers in the HT-3[2,7] seems to be on the
smallish side, at least to my uncalibrated eyeball. Small ==
"undersize"????? Maybe.
2. Perhaps hallicrafters was aware of a problem with these transformers.
Didja ever notice that the instruction manuals for both transmitters
caution you, when turning the rig off, to pause briefly in the "standby"
position before continuing to the "off" position?
*One other SSB rig that has a reputation for popping its power transformer
is a Gonset GSB-100; it, too, has a "small" transformer. Go figgur....
