As any piece of test equipment it needs periodic calibration to maintain
its performance. Components in TE, especially hobby-grade, are no
better than those in what you're servicing. If a loss of performance is
due to fixed components they must be changed out. There's nothing magic
about test gear, it just does a different job than a radio.

Now here's where I stick my neck out; and yes, I should know better.
Calibrating a radio is no different from calibrating TE. In the case
where an adjustment is provided we call it "alignment", but it's just a
calibration like any other. If there's no adjustment then fixed
components must be changed. Hopefully the correct ones!

So all the arguments about originality boil down to one thing only:
personal preference. How original do you want to be, or how non
original can you stand? It matters not to the radio. The only thing
that matters to it is restoration of each circuit to design parameters.
If it isn't "calibrated" to work as designed, it won't.

My opinions are guaranteed to be worth what you've paid for them. ;<)
