Well, this morning I finally got the ambition to take the unit off the shelf
where it normally resides (playing position) and did a re-wire of the
primary AC circuit so that the power switch is located in the hot lead (as
it should be).  I had previously installed a polarized line cord on the
unit.  So now, the chassis is always at neutral level (through the usual
capacitor) instead of changing from hot to cold as the power is turned
on/off.  I didn't notice a rise in the hum level by putting the hot lead on
the switch which is on the back of the bolume control.
