[Hallicrafters] S-38D Help

I need a little help identifying a Hallicrafters receiver. For Christmas 
in 1953 or 1954, my father gave me a Hallicrafters S-39D receiver. It 
started a life long interest in radio's and electronics. I am trying to 
add this set to my collection, as it disappeared years ago. The problem 
is that my S-38D looked like an S-38C with the two dials and not the not 
the  S-38D that had a slide rule dial. Does anyone know if this was a 
carryover or how long they built this set? I haven't been able to locate 
or find any information on this set. I know I'm right, because I still 
have the manual for my set.
