Double box, using solid sheet styrofoam (4 x 8 foot
sheets available at home improvement centers for under
$5 a sheet) all around the box holding the radio, 4
inches minimum thickness all directions. Put at least
4 inches of sheet styrofoam under and on top of the
inner box between it and the outer box. You can use
solid styrofoam on all 4 sides between the inner box
and the outer box (again at least 4 inches to the
outside box). These do not have to go all the way
across, but should be in the middle on each side. You
can fill the remaining volume with Pelspan ("styrofoam
peanuts"), but DO NOT rely on any Pelspan for support.
 This is filler material only.

I used UPS for over 30 years until a little over a
year ago. They started tearing up triple boxed items
and even wooden crated items! I have been using FedEx
ground for well over a year. So far, I have not had
one item either outbound or inbound damaged! Some of
the inbound items were not packed that well and still
made it without any problems. UPS has damaged over
half of the items going out or coming in during 2001.
Previous to 2001, I never had any problems with UPS.
Now, I refuse to use them!

Need suggestions for packing material & technique as
well as a reliable (if there is such an animal)
carrier to transport it.
