Seasons Greetings to all. I will be selling off a couple of my Hallis. First to go is my best and rarest rig. A Hallicrafters SX-32.
I hope to have some pictures of this very soon, for those of you wishing to see it. It's rarity can be noted by the lack of a picture in the HCI photo archive. This radio is fully functional and is used almost on a daily basis. One or two of the bands does not pull in a great amount of stations, but I've been told this is to be expected. Okay, now for some details. I am entertaining offers for this radio and hope that I do not have to resort to that awful online auction site. As mentioned, the radio works on all six bands. BFO, antennae trimmer, ANL all work. Cosmetically, the outside is really decent. The faceplate and cabinet have their original finish. The faceplate is excellent and near flawless, numbers are crisp and bright, some very minor scratching, no rust, no dents. Original knobs. S-meter functions great and the meter housing "does not" have the familiar stress cracks. The cabinet as a few very minor scratches, some traces of oxidization on the inner lip where the top rests. One side has some small bubbling in the paint, not too noticeable, but I do want to cover it. The chassis could use a good cleaning, some minor discoloration with the cadmium, worn in places. The radio " has not" been recapped. I have left this to the new owner to decide. Personally, I've chose not to obcure it's originality. There is a "tube socket" size opening in front of the power transformer on the chassis, which is not visable from the outside of the radio, only when the top is open and you look down upon it, but it really does not look too offensive. There is an electrolytic capacitor (I don't think it is original) below it and I strongly suspect that someone may have created this opening specifically for it. For those of you who are not familiar with the SX-32, it is very similar to the SX-28 and 28A, with thirteen tubes and I believe one less knob on the front. This radio had a very short production life. Very few survive today. Chuck Dachis told me it is "fairly rare". I have seen a few SX-88's up for auction in the past year, but no SX-32's. I live one hour north of Detroit on the US/Canadian boarder, in Canada and can ship this to your specs from the US or Canada, would even drive a fair distance to help out. I know how to package a radio of this size and weight and would be willing to fabricate a shipping crate to accomodate its safe passage. I cannot put enough emphasis on the rarity of this unique receiver. If you are a serious collector of Hallis and want to add a very "rare bird" to your collection, email me with any questions and offers (serious ones).
regards
Mike
