Hello Mike,

First, what type of electronic restoration experience, or basic electronics
background, do you have? This is a BIG project to tackle, so if you are
determined to do it yourself, go into it with both eyes wide open Mike.

I would strongly suggest you read the Hallicrafters archives, they are retained
for about thirty months. You may access them from the HCI web site at:

http://www.w9wze.org

You can search for references to the SX-62 and obtain a lot of helpful
information from posts on the receiver. Unfortunately, some subscribers respond
privately to questions and the helpful information is never shared with the list
subscribers. Hence it is not in the archives.

You can obtain a copy of the owners manual from:

WA2CWA, Peter Markavage:
manualman at juno.com

NI4Q, Al Bernard:
ni4q at juno.com

Happy restoration!

I was the successful bidder on e-Bay this afternoon for an SX-62. I've
never done any radio restoration before and need some suggestions on where
to start. The description of the radio says that its in original condition
and works. The description specifically says that it still has the paper
caps. I guess replacing them will be my first project.

I'm planning on getting an owner's manual for it. Should I invest in a
service manual as well ? What other reference sources, books, etc should I
also pick up. I already have an analog multimeter as well. Anyone have any
other suggestions for other "must have" gear ?

Thanks,

Mike
