Let me add to the confusion.
I parted out 2 28's that were too far gone to recover. I removed the data
plates from both to keep for record. Both radios had another number stamped
under the data plate into the steel chassis. I still have one of the chassis
and will check the number when I find it again. The chassis no was as long
+/- a digit as the S/N but there was no relationship between the 2 numbers.
The plot thickens.
