As a new net member I'm initiating a search for a couple of odds & ends that
I need for one of my units. At present, I have 3 Hallicrafters receivers, all
in working order:
An S-38B in excellent condition which I purchased at the Ft. Benning
PX in
       1951.
An SW 500 in pretty nice shape that I found at a barn sale
A recently acquired S-40B in good external shape but needs some
cosmetic
       cleanup on the inside.
       .

I need some minor replacement parts for the S-40B. First is a main tuning
knob, Hallicrafters P/N 15A048. This is a black knob, 1-1/2" in dia. by 3/4"
deep. It's the same P/N used on the S-38B & appears to be used on everything
Hallicrafters built during this time frame. I also need a 5"PM speaker,
Hallicrafters P/N 85B050 (Jensen ST-104, Model P5-V). Someone in the past
replaced the original with a Sanyo (yuck!) which works but is the wrong size.
I would also like to locate some 30 lb. test dial cord. The main tuning dial
was restrung in the past with some white packaging twine. Finally, what's a
good method for cleaning years worth of scale & crud frum the chassis
interior & power supply transformer? Also, what's a good procedure for
restoring the charcoal gray exterior finish?

I also have a copy of the Sams Photofact publication, "Post War
Communications Receivers", second edition, October, 1948. It includes
service data for:

Collins 75A1
Gonset 10-11 meter converter
Hallicrafters S-38, S-40, S-40A, S-41G, S-41W, S-47, S-51, S-52, S-53, SX-42,
and SX-43
Hammarlund HQ-129X and SP-400X
National NC2-40DR, NC2-40DT, NC-33, NC-46, NC-57, NC-108, NC-173R, NC-183
and HRO-7
RME 45, 84, DB-22A, HF10-20 and VHF-152A

The book also incudes service data for 24 aircraft & marine radios.

I will be happy to make this information available to anyone who needs it.

Thanks for any help,

Jim Mandelik
