Hey Pete:
The SX-101 is a very heavy reciever indeed. They made it that way to help in stability (tho the HT-32 that i use with it is much more heavy)
If this is your first SX-101, you will find it is still a very capable reciever by todays standards. (i use my HT-101 as my main reciever with my HT-32)
I also have a kenwood ts-430 but it doesnt come close to my hallicrafters sx-101 in performance, and overall operation.
if you hear W4IIV on the air.....take comfort, as it will be on a hallicrafters.

An SX-101A followed me home last night and I thought I was going to bust a
gut carrying it. Haven't had any contact with one before but that has got
to be one of the heaviest receivers around. There isn't that much inside
under the cover so where's all that weight coming from? The case? Or is
there something under the chassis I haven't seen yet? Truely a boatANCHOR!
