Greetings from Halliwood! When I last posted a question on the website in regards to my SX-42 many of you asked to keep the site posted on the progress. Well, I'm happy to say that the radio is now running greatttttt! I attacked the cosmetic part first, bead blasting the cabinet, painting it and giving the whole unit a much needed cleaning. I ordered all of the capacitors that the radio had and proceeded to recap the unit. I replaced approximately ten paper caps then snipped off the electrolytic leads going to the can. Using a terminal strip I mounted the three electros and hooked them up to give a try before proceeding. I plugged it in to see if the annoying loud hum had disipated. Ahhhhhh, music to my ears, literally, on the AM band. Will probably do an alignment once I've finished the other 40 or so caps. I would like to thank everyone that helped me out with their suggestions, many whom I've forgot. Ed Benjamin, Tom Harrison, Al Parker, Ray, to name just a few. How could I possibly fail when in the company of such knowledgable and compassionate people. From the bottom of my pea pickin' filter choke, thank you!

regards
Mike Smout
