Looking at the schematic on BAMA, both capacitors
("gimmicks") have to be in place for the receiver to
operate properly.  They are "grounded" when the AM /
CW switch is in the AM position and couple around the
i.f. tube when in the CW position.

Most "gimmick" capacitors have 4 to 6 turns of wire. 
Make 2 "loops" out of solid insulated "hook up" wire,
tightly twist 5 or 6 times at the loop end, solder the
wires between the points for the capacitors, and then
cut off the loops.  This will leave the gimmick in
place.
