Dr. John is a fine person and has always made an effort to treat those he has
sold an item to fairly and to represent said item honestly. I have been aware of
this unfortunate incident for some months now. As much as I hate to see negative
feedback on another Ham, there are times a warning is the proper course of
action. This is such a case.

Please do NOT flame pro or con!

If you wish to discuss this incident, contact John privately.

Thanks.

Dear Fellow Hams,

I noticed a post by the above listed gentleman today's date on the
reflector. This guy has a terrible reputation, and he definitely ripped
me off per the attached e-mail that I sent out some time ago.

Avoid him like the plague. If you are doing business with him require
payment by secure means up front, and require him to ship all equipment
to you (at his expense) so you can inspect it before purchasing it!!!

Sincerely,

John, W4NU

Dear Fellow Hams/Hallicrafters Collectors,

On July 24 2001 I shipped an SX-101A and an HT-32A "parts rig" to a ham
in Texas. I made him a package deal for $350
plus shipping. I paid $116.17 to UPS for ground delivery. Therefore the
grand total was $466.17.

The fellow said he was disabled and didn't have the money at the time to
pay me. Like a fool I shipped the gear to him anyway
as I was sensitive to his situation. He has not paid me a penny to date.

I didn't do a good job on the packing on the parts rig as the panel
meter and some knob skirts were damaged according to
him. However it was a "PARTS RIG" I emphasize!!

He has refused to pay me. This is even after I said he could have the
parts rig for free in view of the damage. The SX-101A
was in good condition and had been completely recapped and aligned using
Hewlett Packard test gear. It was a very good
SX-101A.

He started off saying that "you did a good job on the SX-101A. It is
much better on SSB than my SX-101MKII...." This was
stated in his e-mail of 1 August 2001. By 20 November 2001 he was
complaining that the SX-101A was "drifting, and the dial
was slipping"...I knew by then that I had been ripped off and that I
would never get paid.

I explained several times to him that no BA gear is perfect, and that
gear is sold "as is"!!!

This gentleman should be avoided like the plague, and you should
definitely collect from him ahead of time. If you get any gear
from him you should make him ship it at his expense so you can check it
out in advance.

He had the audacity to tell me in January 2002 that he would ship the
gear back to me at my expense!!!

He is:

George R. Griesbach
W5GRG

Comfort, Texas

I feel like it is my duty to tell you all about the one time I have been
ripped off on the reflectors.

73,

John, W4NU
