Hi guys,
for hallicrafters cabinet tops, SX-101/HT-32/SX-71, etc,
Plasticote #1542 Burnished Silver
Duplicolor # T229W Silver M
both are "truck & van" paint.
I have used a clear coat over it, seems to make it harder, better scuff
resistance.
for the cabinet, the early ones were a black or dark charcoal with metal
flake. Metal flake is sort of unobtainium now. Rustoleum V7777 Satin
Black does a very good job, many of us have used it.
Prep - clean, then a dilute acid wash to slightly etch, phosphoric, or
even vinegar.
All above has worked for me, on units noted, no complaints, usually
compliments from any viewers or "next users". I have used Mike Shelton's
black on SX-42, slightly different tha V7777.
