Hi Phil & crew:
I just had an idea for detail prepping those perforated covers.
If there is rust within the perforations, and or residual paint, how
about this:
Remove the cover and get a big shallow box full of dry white beach sand.
Then hold the cover upside down and "play" with it as if it were one of
those sandbox sand sifter things that used to come with the little shovel
and pail. Push it down into the sand top first, then the sides, lift up,
repeat, jostle it around.
Someone had once suggested a sandbox as a way to clean up things with
fine detail, nooks and crannies, etc.
Anyone ever actaull do this? (I haven't ) Seems that it might work
better than wire brushing, or the proverbial pointed stick.
Barry
