Wayne,

The HT-40 was an entry level transmitter manufactured in 1961-1963. The
companion receiver was the SX-140. It covers 80 meters through 6 meters. It is
crystal controlled. You may use the optional external vfo known as the HA-5 with
it. The power output is 75 watts, considerably less on AM.

It is an entry level tx/rx. A fine combination for a Novice or a beginner to get
his/her feet warmed with rf. It is not a great tx, but is still useable and fun.
If you do not expect more from it than it was designed to deliver, you will
enjoy it.

I have a working HT-40 (but only one xtal) which I will get on the air soon now
that I've acquired an external VFO. Is this a pretty good xmtr or a
bottom-of-the-line model? When was is manufactured and what would have been the
companion receiver?

Tnx, Wayne K4WK
