Hi Bob,

About your S-76 meter pointer getting stuck with wide excursions of the
pointer, there are several possible problems, the most common being dust or
dirt particles getting into the "works."

The easiest possible cure which sometimes works is to take a small
screwdriver and gently turn the meter adjustment screw on the front of the
meter housing through it's range of motion several times. Often, this will
dislodge any particles that have become hung up.

If this doesn't work, removal and careful disassembly of the meter is the
next step. After it is apart, check in the bearing area and in the area of
the coil and see if there are any foreign particles evident. Sometimes
something metallic will stick to the magnet and rub the movement when it
makes a wide swing. Also, carefully inspect the pivot bearings and be sure
that the movement is free, but not sloppy. Check the ends of the pointer to
make sure it is not rubbing on a stop or the scale when it makes a swing.

Hopefully you will find the cause of the sticking problem with one of these
steps. Good luck and please post your findings here so that others might
benefit from your experience.
