I have never been able to properly align my SX28A.  The instructions have been explained to me and I can understand what they are trying to achieve (without using modern test gear, of course) but the technique is, for me, impossible to master.

I know that a sweep generator is the answer.  It would be so much easier to trim those IF's and crystal padders if I could just look at a display of IF response vs frequency on my scope.  But I had no sweep generator.

But now I do!   I took advantage of a few days of very rainy weather to cobble together a sweep generator on a ceramic breadboard strip using some 555 timers and miscellaneous other small parts from the junk box.  It is a little awkward to use but it does work.

It occurred to me that I may not be the only one needing a very cheap solution to that problem.  For anyone interested I have posted a schematic and brief writeup on my webpage.  You can follow the link from my page at:
