Greetings,

I will be in Alaska from March 4th to March 23rd, as
a volunteer communicator for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race.
I plan to operate while at two Alaskan villages, from about
March 7th to the 22nd. The first is Nikolai (350 miles
north of Anchorage, population 100) and I'll be there
from 3-7 to about 3-13. I have captured the special event
callsign K7N for that operation and I hope to continue using
it at the village of Unalakleet, on the coast of the Bering Sea
at Norton Sound (800 miles northwest of Anchorage, population
750).

For HF operation, we will have a checkpoint-to-checkpoint
link (Nikolai to Rohn Roadhouse) of about 60 miles and plan to
use 3.945 MHz for that operation. We will also have a simplex
2-meter link and wireless Internet access for the Nik-Rohn link.
Every night there is the Motley Net on 3.933 MHz at 10 PM PST
and I'll try to check into that most nights. Hope to hear a call from
home so please give us a shout if you hear our little signals from
out in the Alaskan bush. While in Unalakleet, I will just be hamming
around on HF so I will still be on 3.945 MHz and hope to check into
the Motley Net, too. All Iditarod traffic from Unalakleet will be
passed via the Internet so any ham operation will be just for fun.

73,
Jim W6SC
