Sorry, folks. The Newsletter will be late this month (like into next
month - hi). -- Tony, AD6ID
Meanwhile, here's what you need to know:
***NEXT CLUB MEETING - Saturday, 28-Feb-2004
--------------------
GVARC usually meets on the LAST Saturday of each month, at the
Sunrise Cafe in Gilroy on Monterey Avenue (near the Hilton, in
front of Motel 6). From the North or South, take the Monterey St. exit
from highway 101 (south end of Gilroy) and head north. We trickle in
about 8 a.m. and eat at 8:30ish. The South County ARES net is held
each Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. on W6GGF/R (147.825 -.600, no PL 100Hz).
***GARLIC FEST COMMITTEE VOLUNTEERS WANTED
I feel that I need to make an appeal to the club. As some of you know I
have become the chairman of the Communications Committee at the Gilroy
Garlic Festival. I need an assistant chairman. I had 2 new club members
that I approached but, although both are interested in the job, both
have extremely important family maters that won't allow their
involvement at this time. Both would probably be ready and willing in 2
years. I feel that I am looking down the barrel of a shotgun held be
some of the older Garlic Festival board members who want some of their
old cronies recycled through the committees. I, personally, don't think
there is a one of them who could do the job today since, over the last 2
years, it has gone so "HighTec". But if I can't convince someone from
the club to take the job there will be a very good chance that I will
have to get an "outsider" to be my assistant. This brings the very real
possibility that when they become chairman in 2 years they might look
elsewhere for the manpower to run the committee. Since the Garlic
Festival is about the only money making activity the club is involved in
(and we are all enjoying free dues this year because of several club
members who volunteered their time) I would really like to see some more
club members get involved. It really isn't a hard job and doesn't
require very much time out of your year. I will be at the club meeting
this month making my plea in person so if anyone is interested and/or
wants more information please feel free to ask. Or you can e-mail me at
