Folks,

The At-Sea Program at CSUMB, and now, all the CSU campuses will be
sponsoring their 3rd summer cruise this summmer aboard the California
Maritime Academy (CMA) training Ship, Golden Bear.
See their website:
http://atsea.csumb.edu

Ham radio has been on board as a focus activity for every previous CSUMB
cruise. This year they depart June 19, from Hawaii, on a loop of the south
pacific, including ports of call in New Zealand, and Australia, returning to
Vallejo August 19. In previous cruises a ham radio based PactorII system
was setup and software developed, allowing worldwide exchange of email
between students on board the ship, and persons around the world.
Additionally, voice communications schedules were set up between the ship
and the N6IJ super station, and stations at CSUMB, and elsewhere. This year
similar activities may evolve, depending on interests and skillsets of the
cruise participants. If you are interested in going on the cruise, or know
someone who may be, contact Dr. Robert Van Spyk, the Director of the
program, and visit the website to get listings of important deadlines,
approaching. If you have ideas about what (radio, oceanography, or
meterology) experiments we can do including using ham radio aboard the
cruise, please contact me (Pat, AA6EG, [email protected]) or Dr. Van Spyk
([email protected]). If you want to test some antennas aboard Golden bear, we
would be happy to. If you know of any of the science community that could
utilize the cruise track and time of the Golden Bear for any kinds of
experiments including Physical Oceanography, or Meterology, contact me.
Once the cruise commences, you may be interested in shoreside radio support
of the cruise..contact me or Dr. Van Spyk.
