Probably not worth the effort.

Our TTY machines are designed to operate asynchronously and will work with motor speed differences of 5 to 10%.

At 60wpm, a data bit is 22ms and the machine only needs about 4 ms to make the mark/space decision.  So there can be some slop in the motor speed.

I've not worked with one but it sounds like they could be controlled by PWM since governor contacts opening & closing sound like a sort of PWM.
