Military TTYs often have big filters on the AC line that will trip a GFCI.  I have had problems with a TT-69A & TT-98 and had to install a separate AC receptacle for them.  I also put a switch on the receptacle because those filter caps are always directly across the AC line.  They are supposed to be able to handle the line voltage, but when they are 70 years old, I don't trust them and always kill the AC power to them.

I think what is happening is, since all the pins are the same length, the active and earth sometimes connect before neutral. There is a filter block between the power connector and the switch which could give enough current to pop the earth leakage breaker.

Anyway .. connect the Amphenol connector before plugging the NEMA plug into the power point (and, when disconnecting, remove from the powerpoint before disconnecting from the teleprinter).
