As an FYI:
An AEA PK-232 makes a very nice speed converter; set the right mode, AFSK into the audio port; use the console (DB25) port for your Device. In fact, if you connect your Device up as RS232 propery, issuing
a few asterisks *** will perform the console port ‘autobaud’ routine. Then if you issue ‘ba’ it will switch the 232 to Baudot.
I have several of these things, and have used them for this purpose more than once. It’s fun to hook an ASR33 to the console at 110 Baud, then receive 45 Baud RTTY – the 33 goes essentially ‘half-speed’ –
print / pause / print / pause etc.
PK-232s are still fairly plentiful – one sees them at hamswaps for cheap bux (unless the Seller is a bit delusional – two years ago I saw three of them for $650 each – when I gently and diplomatically suggested
that maybe the decimal point was misplaced, said seller got huffy and I got lectured about “Rare Legacy Digital Artefacts’. I didn’t bother telling him that I bought my first PK-232 serial number 0079 from Henry Radio in the early 80s).
