if you leave the machine plugged in to AC and turn off the LINE/OFF/Local switch to OFF, there is still current running thru the large toasty resistor

I noticed that the electronics were on when I had my multimeter plugged and the switch OFF. You could get a shock trying to remove the SMD card, in particular. Of course, I would have known this if I had read your page ahead of time ;)
