The informal info:
Many of us successfully use Mobil One synthetic for oil and Lucas Red n Tacky for grease. Available at your local auto parts store.

Some people hate WD-40 but I use it to wash out old gunk before re-lubrication.

YMMV

I am cleaning up this model 28 tape printer and have noticed that the
grease used on gears and other moving parts has dried up a bit.

What is the recommendation for a modern grease and oil that I should use
to lube this mechanism?

I've used some LPS-1 to free up some gummy actions with a lot of success
but not sure if that is a good lube for operation.
