You would need either:

1) a high quality pic of the punch head, no need to take the cover off, but explaining WHAT to take a pic of may be tricky

2) take the front cover off, 4 small screws, easily done

3) maybe, take a pic of the bottom and see how many resistors are installed?  If the guy can get the bottom visible easily? Not surefire, they could have installed 8 resistors but only a 6 pin punch head.

See pix.  It says "BRPE8 6" from what I can tell.  Also, by the connector it appears to be a parallel unit? 
8 level I would assume, but might it be 6 level with the "6" in the model number?
Is it easy for a non-technical seller to remove the cover from the punch block to know more? Does it lift off easily? does it require screw removal?
