Exactly my point. So why does the manual show two options for keyboard gear ratio
and why is one of those options called "Bell System Standard".

runs at whatever speed the mainshaft is turning.

To change speeds it is only necessary to change the
motor pinion and the corresponding mainshaft gear.
The keyboard will follow right along.
