  At this point the machine is just printing gibberish.

It's a read only machine, no keyboard so troubleshooting is limited

to ITTY feeds or manipulating the selector by hand.

I thought maybe I needed to adjust the range finder but no luck with that so far.

I guess the TU170 could be putting out gibberish?
