Spinning a 33 up and down again for each message vs running the motor continuously, I would love to know if there was any guidance on the 33 for best practices.

I imagine if you only have say 30 seconds between messages, spinning up and down does more harm than good, one hour, obviously far better to spin down, where is the line?

Well my idea is not to do this 24x7, but just as a demo from time to time, but still without it being powered on all the time.

You need a relay to bring the teletype up. It all depends on how you are receiving the broadcast as to how to set that up.

I would not suggest having a 33 on autostart. They are not very robust machines, and are best saved for live demos and interactive usage in my humble opinion.

I see on the RTTY page it says “Most users have configured their mechanical teletype machines to power up when receiving a broadcast and the power down after the message is delivered.”

How do people do this? I have a Model 33 ASR and I don’t like to leave it switched on for long periods.

Thanks
