But I guess the point is what do people use to trigger the relay? I guess if I am running my own modified version of Curl on a Raspberry Pi I could use the same code to trigger a relay.

You need a relay to bring the teletype up. It all depends on how you are receiving the broadcast as to how to set that up.
I would not suggest having a 33 on autostart. They are not very robust machines, and are best saved for live demos and interactive usage in my humble opinion.
