I'm gonna guess that this was a weather printer at one point and someone
went to the trouble of changing the pallets.  I did that for one pallet
way back when to get a slash zero.  Kind of tricky work meant for young
hands.  I certainly wouldn't try it these days.  My first clue was the
$.  And that made me think about the adjustment for platen shift.  But
then I noticed most figures printed pretty well.  LTRS C and D caught my
attention for having their bottom half light compared to most other
letters.  I'm puzzled though that the vertical alignment seems OK on
letters like  C D and Z, but the bottom half is light or missing.    I'm
not quite sure how to describe the mis-alignment nor why that would happen.

To change one you get the type bar pulled up and somehow held in place
just above the other letters, heat until the old one comes loose, a
little more heat to keep solder molten while dropping the new one in place.
