After re-reading your comments, I may have mis-interpreted them.

Are you saying the motor speed changes or the typing rate?

If you have a series-governed motor (black & white striped wheel on end of motor), there are brushes that may need to be replaced and/or commutator contacts that need to be cleaned.

I would look into the area of the selector magnet.  It sounds like maybe the armature is not dropping when a new character comes in.  Try increasing the spring bias on the armature.

I can't give  you any more specifics as I am mainly a Kleinschmidt guy (US Army TTY repairman), although I do maintain a few M15. M19, M28 for the AWA Museum.

Could it be a bad motor, or is there an adjustment I am missing? Some torque setting or clearance somewhere?

Thanks in advance, I hope to get this unit up and running to use online with the itty feed and also with RTTY on the air.
