He was an interesting bird to be sure, I tried to persuade him to make his museum a 501c3, but he wouldn’t hear of it. He wasn’t malevolent or greedy, just eccentric. He did a great service with his documentation curation, but it could have been so much more.
And now that he is gone, who knows what will become of all our well-intended donations? If nothing else, I hope his library can be donated to a relevant institution. I also hope the SMECC website will be maintained.

Similar story. I was in Phoenix on a business trip once many years ago. I tried to meet up with Ed but he insisted things were being rearranged so I couldn’t visit. I had donated some stuff to him but quit after that. I hope his accumulated collection stays out of the landfill.
Ed was a strange bird, but he did post a lot of interesting stuff on his SMECC web pages. And he never did learn the difference between subject line and body text in email…..
RIP Ed

Did anyone ever see Ed's collection. I made a long trip some years back
and included going to Phoenix hoping to see it. Ed and his wife and I
had dinner together, but he said the collection was not safely viewable.
Seems like someone else had planned to join us in a viewing and was
waved off.
