______________________________________________________________I had dreams of placing the LESU in the maintenance position and making the 40 C strip connections. Got that done. Then flipping the LESU into its operating position. The cackles were just too stiff, no go.So I spent an hour each cutting the hard stuff off the two cables that go up to the C terminals and putting ty-wraps very 2-3 inches to keep the wires from going all over the place. I put them on as I cut off the old tubing. The cables to the printer and the keyboard were workable so I'm deferring those until I score some spiral stuff of the right size. Or is there something better than spiral?-------You said "tomorrow" yesterday. The above comments or recommendations are SWAG. Use at your own risk.John, W9DDDThe white stuff is the plasticizer which is added to many plastics and synthetic materials to make it somewhat flexible or to flow better during the molding process. Many “vintage” plastic materials suffer from the migration of these agents over time causing the material to become more brittle and fragile.

what even is the white stuff? My 28 wiring is replete with the stuff where I could not easily wipe it away.Is it like a mould or something?
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________I did try leaving it set outside in out 109 degree heat. Couldn't really see a difference, but I do have a 1000 degree heat gun I might try.
If nothing else the armor all will take the white stuff off.

Cables going to the printer connector, the keyboard connector and to the terminal strips at the back of the 28 cabinet get white stuff on the surface of the plastic (vinyl?) sleeve. The sleeve also gets stiff.
I'm trying to do a LESU transplant and the new one was stored with the cables wrapped around the LESU resulting in them being set in positions incompatible with how they need to lie in the cabinet.
I've seen these sleeves in both black and clear versions. Since they both get the white stuff with age I assume similar materials. Current project is the clear version.
I've started some treatment with Armor All based on web search info.
I'm certainly open to better options.______________________________________________________________
