______________________________________________________________I have a dream of building a warehouse somewhere out here and storing parts and equipment originally destined for landfills for future distribution. Problem is even the most useless, worthless land out here is stupid expensive until you get a few hours away from my location with no electricity and often not even dirt access roads. One day I hope to do something like this, but it's a long way off if it ever happens. My intentions are of no use right now.I built a small barn on my residential property for a similar purpose, but part of George's haul plus some smaller hauls from elsewhere have almost filled it up at this point. When there are only a few hundred of us in the country and few to none can afford the temporal and monetary capital to store more than a few machines even if we want to, it's an uphill battle. Moth, rust, and thieves shall claim it all eventually. And mice. Don't forget the mice.My wife jokes that I could have gotten into stamps or coins that are light and small, but I just had to get into old comms equipment.Like many, I'm sure I could find some room for a few machines to help handle this load, but I currently don't have a way to go out and get them. A countrywide road trip for distribution to GKers does sound pretty fun, though, if I simply had the time for such a long trip. If my kids were older, I'd take them with me and give them a great education on the way. Any chance the stuff can stay in the warehouse for 6 - 7 years instead of months? :)On Mon, Jun 12, 2023, at 12:49 PM, Daniel Jones wrote:My father is going to go out and get an idea of the amount of stuff to make room in the warehouse. I talked to David and he said that it’s about 2 uhauls worth of stuff. We should be able to keep it in the warehouse for 6-7 months. I will keep everyone updated because we will definitely need a few people to move the stuff. I told him it could be 1-2 months before we could get it but it could be done.More to follow,DanielDJones@K6YIC.comHH#11973On Jun 12, 2023, at 07:15, James Harper <kh6cn@earthlink.net> wrote:Good Morning Daniel,

I am going to talk to my parents and brother and then call this guy to see how long he needs, I probably have the area up there to store it for 6-7 months its just a matter of making it back up there. I have also talked to Ira Moser who is up that way to see about moving it too. My parents have a warehouse and a 24’ box trailer. If it’s free then it might be worth it. After all this place isn’t to far from my parents warehouse, its just really far for me. Hihi. More to follow on Monday or Tuesday. This was the estate of David Ross.DanielOn Jun 11, 2023, at 13:19, Paul Heller <paul0926@comcast.net> wrote:We’d also have to pay a moving company to move all the stuff into storage because volunteers in that area are pretty much nonexistent. And it’s highly likely that we would never empty that storage bin, and then what?George Hutchison tried years ago to reason with the guy and was willing at that time to do all the work to arrange distribution. He planned to go down there to survey it. George’s idea was that someone would rent a truck and drive across country dropping off equipment for everybody. That’s a nice idea, but who’s going to do that? And then something happened, and George never knew what. The guy pretty much handed George his hat and said some strong words. George never figured out what he did to piss the guy off. It was probably a big misunderstanding. Plus the guy wanted a lot of money. George’s effort ended after that and George said he’d never go near the place, he was out. What was this? 5 years ago? Maybe longer?Sorry to be negative but we need to be realistic. There was another fellow named Pete Lancashire who had a large collection in that area of the country. George was responsible for the distribution of all Pete’s teletype gear (there was a lot) from his estate. George put out notices for people to come and get it.. Few to no volunteers came to move the stuff out (I do think someone did take something. Was that you, Daniel?). George paid out his own pocket to make arrangements and took most of it to his house, hoping to give it away, and people would not even go to his house to pick it up.Sad story. Who’s left to collect this equipment and preserve it for all time? Thank goodness the AWA museum is doing that. Thank goodness for Duncan who has set it all up there.I always dreamed of starting a museum for this. It would serve as a place for all my Teletype equipment along with a lot of old computing equipment (some very old). So I could get it started. But I’d need a benefactor to fund it. Space is expensive. That’s the hard part. So, after saying all that, I truly hope this turns out well.PaulIf the equipment would fit in a self storage unit near there, perhapsseveral of us could pool the rent on something until the equipment isdistributed.HaroldOn Sat, June 10, 2023 7:43 pm, Daniel Jones wrote:I got the same call. David Mercado (owner) called metoday to inquire if I was "still interested" in the lot. He states hestill has 90% of what was advertised back the first time around andwants to know if anyone is interested in hauling it away. He statedthe next stop is the scrap yard so perhaps he's more receptive tomocving stuff. There was extensive discussion here on GK about thisback in March 2020 but it apparently came to naught. It has apparentlybeen picked over by locals for the radio stuff but most of the TTY stuffis supposedly still there. I pointed him at Greenkeys (again) and heseemed inclined to post a msg here. I have his email if anyone wouldcare to go direct and discuss it.Steve______________________________________________________________GreenKeys mailing listPost: mailto:GreenKeys@mailman.qth.netJordan Spencer Cunningham's GreenKeys Search Tool:2002-to-present greenkeys archive:1998-to-2001 greenkeys archive:Randy Guttery's 2001-to-2009 GreenKeys Search Tool:This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.netPlease help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.htmlMessage delivered to djones@k6yic.com______________________________________________________________GreenKeys mailing listPost: mailto:GreenKeys@mailman.qth.netJordan Spencer Cunningham's GreenKeys Search Tool:2002-to-present greenkeys archive:1998-to-2001 greenkeys archive:Randy Guttery's 2001-to-2009 GreenKeys Search Tool:This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.netPlease help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.htmlMessage delivered to harold@w6iwi.org--Not sent from an iPhone.______________________________________________________________GreenKeys mailing list______________________________________________________________GreenKeys mailing listPost: mailto:GreenKeys@mailman.qth.netJordan Spencer Cunningham's GreenKeys Search Tool: https://teletype.net/gksearch2002-to-present greenkeys archive: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/greenkeys/1998-to-2001 greenkeys archive: http://mailman.qth.net/archive/greenkeys/greenkeys.htmlRandy Guttery's 2001-to-2009 GreenKeys Search Tool: http://comcents.com/tty/greenkeyssearch.htmlThis list hosted by: http://www.qsl.netPlease help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.htmlMessage delivered to djones@k6yic.com
