The outer part of the rotor in a Mite motor is hard steel. The motor is capacitor start and run two pole, and is wound to bring everything close to saturation. It starts as an induction motor, and as it approaches synchronism the rotor becomes magnetized and locks in to synchronous speed. Motors of this design run hot and are of poor efficiency.

I suspect the synchronous motors of the AC-variants MITEs have rotors with a combination of permanent magnet excitation and a self-exciting ferrite ring to minimize the risk of "tipping".

I have to correct. The prototype version is 115V BUT 50 Hz.

I have got MITEs in all versions in my collection.

115V 400HZ, 28V DC and also a prototype version 220V AC 50Hz intended
to sell to German Army (Bundeswehr),
but it never came to a contract.

I feel very lucky to have a working MITE and even more to have a 60cycle unit thanks to a GreenKeys lead.  My ultimate goal is to have it mated up to my PRC-47 and operating in the field, I still need to find the CV-2455 converter to complete the project, I'm currently running it from the GRC-106/MD-522 combination.

I have read(not official) on two occasions that there is a 28V version of the MITE, the manual states availability of two AC motors 60 or 400 cycle, it makes no mention of a DC version, the manual is dated 4/1966.

I would like to ask if any one has actual hands on experience or documentation or pictures of a 28V MITE.  I also would like to thank all of you for making this list a great resource for all things Green Keys.
