I use a similar one called a GURUmodem and its awesome. Most of the custom firmware on these have compatibility features for things like Commodore 64s and all. The one I got, I was able to fit it in an old Hayes modem case using a little usb extender from Amazon.

I think I may have sent this already but it looks interesting.  I haven’t bought one yet but was thinking about it to use with my old Mac’s and DEC equipment (I should be able to use this with my vt420 screen.)

I use an ObiHai OBI200 VoIP interface (cheap on eBay) with Google Voice service (which is free).  I've had no trouble getting a connection through the ObiHai device to a dial-up BBS.  I have it working fine via my PC, but now I'm working on getting my Teletype Model 43 to dial the modem and connect.  Having some issues with that since the baud rate is so low (300 baud), and the Model 43 only talks 7-bit ASCII.

I also have a pile of modems to pass along to others.  I just need to verify that they all work.

Good luck and 73,

I’ve also been interested in playing with dialup again. (Hated in back then!) Though in these modern times, I have no dial service at all to my house.

Has anyone kludged together any sort of FXO apparatus to some inexpensive or free service to get dial-out ability over Internet?

I have a pile of 56K external modems that I’ve been rescuing from e-waste, I’m going to be wanting to find them new homes later this year.

Dan, as I mentioned, some will be heading your way!

Greetings All,
I have just got a vintage Panasonic Data Terminal up and running and am able to copy ITTY via an PK 232 modem. (Converts 45.5 baud to ASCII)
I'd like to try the terminal (built in modem, modular jacks) via the telephone. I see there are a number of folks hosting vintage BBS systems but most are online and seem to be graphics orientated.
Does anyone know of a dial-up BBS that can just communicate in basic ASCII? My terminal is both screen and print capable.
Alternatively, is there any list member(s) who communicates this way?
Suggestions appreciated.

Keith
