Thank you for your kind words. I often post a personal answer to the group in the hope it might help someone else.

The biggest problem I had fixing my first keyboard was locating the code bar bail. The illustrations showed it from

the side so I was looking for a thin piece. Then it finally clicked that fat thing (about two inches wide) across all the code bars was the bail. I  could see it was not moving as the book described which turned out to be the problem. It was clogged up with critter pee. I lot of oil solved the problem.

Something that looks plain in a parts blow-up can be buried so deep in the machine it is difficult to find. I had a wandering baseline in the typing unit of that same ASR. I was trying to find the vertical positioning locklever. I finally found it in plain sight on the right side of the typing unit and turning the motor slowly by hand I realized not all the positions were locking, In short - it was bent. I carefully bent it back and the problem cleared up on the right half of the page. Then  I found a second vertical positioning locklever.on the left side of the typing unit. It was also bent. More careful straightening and the keyboard and typing unit have been fine ever since.

The TD has always worked but one of these days I have to tackle the keyboard perforator. It is behaving very strangely. It only perforates about every other character - which is a combination of the last two characters typed.

For example, if I type RRYYRRYY I usually get RYRY
