Just pulled a M28 ASR out of storage that had been working, but
now it has a jammed keyboard. Both the [N] and [LTRS] keys are
stuck down. (I think the [M] was stuck originally, but it seems OK
now) There is no [KYBD LOCK] button on this keyboard. Printer
& tape reader run fine. (Jingle Bells tape sounds much better
on this M28 than on M15!)
What is a typical cause of these keys sticking ? (I thought all
those ball bearings were supposed to prevent that)
How do I fix it? Not obvious how to get into the keyboard and I
image if you take the top plate off the keyboard, you will have a
heck of a time getting all the keys back in!
Looked at Bul 249 & 1169, but they were not much help. Parts
manual (B1169) does not show how keys sit in keyboard cover.
#573-117-702 gives some disassembly instructions, but no diagrams
of what they are talking about. (They do reference tho parts
manual, but not too helpful if you don't know what you are looking
for.)
I have pulled a chassis from a M28 KSR before. There was a metal
cabinet piece across the top of the keyboard that could be removed
from inside the cabinet to free the keyboard.
This ASR cabinet seems to only have a release/break of the metal
strip above the keyboard on the right side of the keyboard. The
metal piece above the keyboard seems to run to the left, around
the perf and be solidly connected to the cabinet. Yet this piece
must be removed to remove the LAK keyboard & base?
Can anyone give me some direction?
Thanks,
Duncan
