I have found that in cases where ribbons become damaged or when eyelets are not present, a cheap grommet tool like this one: https://www.harborfreight.com/grommet-pliers-with-100-grommets-66707.html can be used to insert serviceable replacements. It seems to work best if you punch a hole first.
