First, anyone recognize this piece of metal? It was inside my 28ASR and is painted the right color. But I can’t figure out where it came from or where it goes?

I opened mine up today after about 10 years and found somethings I thought I had lost long ago. Including the reel from a motorized paper tape take up unit. Third, I noticed there is a slot in the rear of both my ASR and KSR that appears to be for paper?
