Hey Russ (and everyone) happy thanksgiving. I had a question for you. You mentioned that the LPR receives traffic (over the line) in KT or T modes. Doesn’t that prevent you from
punching tape while you continue to print the traffic? I’ve always heard about reading the traffic and simultaneously preparing a response on tape.
My set up is a little different but gives a similar result. I have a separate switch mounted below the TD that changes which loop the LPR is connected to. With the switch “off”
it is on its own local loop, runs “closed” and keeps silent. With the switch set to “on” it puts the LPR in series with the main loop and begins punching the incoming traffic. The only problem I have with this (and this problem has been unsolved for 15 years)
is when I stop printing from the loop and select KT or T some bits are often stuck. The main knob is supposed to reset all of the code bars but doesn’t. Never been solved all these years. Quite a mystery. I am sure I am missing some kind of piece of mechanical
wizardry but never figured it out.
Another question for you, Russ. I’m wondering if your LPR also punches 3 or 4 holes when you turn off your ASR? Mine does because when the power is shut down, the motor begins spinning
down but the loop is immediately shut off. So for a few revolutions of the LPR motor, the LPR runs “open” and 3 or 4 positions advance. Does yours do the same?

I have a Teletype Model 28 ASR on the u-Telex network that operates in a way that is similar to what you are looking to do.
In my machine, the Line Printer (LP) and LPR have their own selector magnet driver (SMD) cards.
The K-KT-T switch either keeps the loop to the LPR in mark hold (in K) or let’s the LPR receive traffic (in KT or T)
Works like a charm when you want to save an incoming message to paper tape.
